Cynthia Walton was born in London in 1925. She wrote poetry at school and as a student at LSE. In London she worked in a documentary film company and then for the British Film Academy. In her twenties she married a doctor and moved to Birmingham and they had four children. In Birmingham she worked as a research assistant in the Faculty of Commerce at Birmingham University, and published 'The Disabled Young Worker' in the Journal of Social Science. She collaborated on a paper 'Causes and Prevention of Burning Accidents': John Bull et al, in the British Medical Journal and also worked as a freelance journalist writing for the Guardian and New Statesman. From 1951 to 1990 she also worked as a research worker and volunteer clinic worker, and then as a publicist and administrator for the Family Planning Association. Her poetry has been published in The Poetry Review and in various anthologies compiled by Poetry Today. In 2001 she co-edited and co-wrote a book with Audrey Court, 'Birmingham Made a Difference 1926-1991' about the family planning movement in Birmingham. She and her husband, Kenneth now live in Solihull where they write and garden.
